The Coroner

If the death was not expected or if the coroner needs to be involved for any reason, then the deceased is usually taken to the Coroners Mortuary or hospital. The Coroner (and his officers) will decide whether to allow the doctor to issue a certificate, hold an inquiry or hold an inquest at a later date. The Coroner's officers will advise you and the funeral director about the timescale for the funeral. It is always sensible to contact the Funeral Director as soon as possible, who can advise you and help you plan the date for the funeral even before the certificates are issued and arrange for the person to be brought into the Chapel of Rest from the mortuary.
